Gilbert Regional Park
No longer the quiet “Alfalfa Hay Capital of the World”, Gilbert has grown by leaps and bounds and recently made the news for being one of the best places to live, work, play, and raise a family in the Arizona and the US.  The cutting edge, carefully planned, 272-acre Gilbert Regional Park is now in the final design stage and slated to be built starting in 2018, over three phases.  It will catapult Gilbert even higher in these lists and set new standards for outdoor recreation and urban planning.  The buzz around town is exciting!

On a phone or laptop, pull up a satellite aerial view of the vacant band running south and west from the intersection of Queen Creek and Higley roads in Gilbert.  Flanked by the beautiful communities of Bridges, Marbella Vineyards, Coronado Ranch, Shamrock Estates, and Freeman Farms, the current retention area will still serve as such but will be regraded and completely transformed into a wondrous playground for all ages.
Through extensive community outreach, thorough surveys of residents’ needs and priorities, and designers to help create a unified vision, thirty park plans have been narrowed to one with an awe-inspiring list of amenities.  Upon completion, the park will include a lake, amphitheater, great lawn, mountain bike trails and skills park, skate park, dog park, bike park, disc golf area, zipline/ropes course, softball, baseball, tennis, sand volleyball and pickleball courts, soccer fields, food truck court, splash pad, recreation/aquatic center, playgrounds, ramadas, restrooms, event center, and eventually retail space.  It’s easy to imagine spending an entire day here, jumping in and out of various sports activities or relaxing with a picnic basket, cooling off in the shade or pool, and finishing up with a concert in the park.
