September is National Better Breakfast Month! Do your part to celebrate and break your fast at one of these locally owned hot spots. Whether it’s a leisurely weekend morning with family or an early meal with a client or colleague from work, these are all great ways to start the day and support local businesses.
TC Eggington’s (NW corner of Baseline and Alma School)
This beloved breakfast spot in Mesa has been a foodies’ staple for over thirty years with its bright, friendly atmosphere and staff and decadent creations from head chef Dean Delgado. TC Eggington’s offers an extensive menu for both breakfast and lunch, so it’s the perfect spot for brunch. Portions are generous and they maintain freshly squeezed juices year round. There are over a dozen omelet options and bloody marys to satisfy cravings for the savory, but don’t miss their most famous English Toast featuring cinnamon bread dipped in custard batter. Don’t plan too much after dining here because a food coma is inevitable, but trust us their food is completely WTC (worth the calories)!
Liberty Market (Downtown Gilbert)
The one and only Liberty Market in downtown Gilbert is a slam dunk for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but the morning vibe here is particularly fun. Casual and kid-friendly, great for people watching and a walk around the shops or canal path after during our beautiful fall weather. Half their breakfast menu is filled with specialty drinks, including mimosas, sangria, and Irish coffee. You can’t go wrong with Biscuits + Gravy or their spicier Chorizo Sweet Potato Hash. There is usually a short line to order as you pass by the dessert options that tend to jump onto your order. Then you’ll find a table with your food brought out to you.
The Bisbee Breakfast Club (SE corner of Guadalupe and Dobson)
The “BBC” is known for memorable breakfasts in historic buildings around the state. The original location in Bisbee sits in a repurposed drugstore, and another in Tucson was built inside a former gas station. Mesa’s location is in a more traditional building but features the same great menu featuring breakfast burritos, build-your-own omelets, and widely varied daily specials. Learn some of Bisbee’s history while you eat. Nice lunch and pie options also, and breakfast is served all day.
Here’s one place you can fill up without feeling guilty after, as everything on the menu in this cute, unique, eco-friendly Ahwatukee restaurant is gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and/or raw. Everything is healthy and relatively unprocessed, and you may feel inspired to take a hike or yoga session after a breakfast smoothie here. The chefs here have mastered the art of meat substitution/imitation, and have created surprisingly hearty and savory dishes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Be sure to try the Sunshine Wrap or Giant Cinnamon Roll.
